Reliance Webstore to distribute handsets

Reliance Webstore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Communications belonging to Reliance ADA Group, has plans for a major thrust in handset retailing. The diversification into handset distribution is in addition to its current focus on handset retailing through Reliance World and Reliance Mobile stores. Reliance Webstore will follow the ‘Hub-and-Spoke’ business model to manage its handset distribution operations. It has signed-up over 1,200 handset retailers and multi-brand outlets (MBOs) in 100 towns and over the next three years, it is targeting a network of 10,000 across 700 towns.
Reliance Webstore Director and CEO Sarup Chowdhary said, “In addition to our exclusive distribution agreement with Coolpad Communications, we have identified other business opportunities to leverage this model.”
Reliance World stores will now distribute handsets to other retailers. The telecom retail business now contributes over 50 per cent to Reliance Webstore’s revenues.
