More Graphic Novels
Craig Thompson is another artist I've been reading a lot of lately. His latest graphic novel, Carnet de Voyage, or as he calls it "on the spot travelogue" of his journeys in Europe and North Africa is one I haven't been able to pick up yet. I have had the pleasure of his first two books, Goodbye, Chunky Rice (1999) and Blankets (2003) and they are well worth the read. Of the two, I prefer Goodbye, Chunky Rice for it's darker subject matter and metaphor whereas Blankets is more of a poignantly honest examination of the high school experience. Both books are well worth the read and the woodcut-esc art is an eyeful of black and white gloom.
