graphic novels

Graphic Novels
Ever since I graduated from college with a BA in English, I've been more drawn to graphic novels especially from independent and up and coming artists. Intrigued by the process of creating a visible story with art and minimal writing, I started to collect books and added more and more independent presses to my favorites list. Stuck in the Middle, a collection of shorts edited by Ariel Schrag, is a notable graphic novel from some very up and coming cartoon artists. The book opens with my personal favorite, Vanessa Davis, who I learned about at the buenaventura press table during the 2006 San Diego Comic Con. Stuck in the middle serves up "seventeen comics from an unpleasant age" like a four star scoop of bad cafeteria goulash.
